Twice a year, Z Hair Academy students have the opportunity to participate in Kansas City (KC) Fashion Week. Despite the coronavirus pandemic, which required virtual rather than in-person runway shows, the Fall/Winter event called “The Runway Reinvented” was filmed at Union Station on September 24, 25 and 26. Students from our cosmetology school in Kansas City, as well as our three other cosmetology schools, did an amazing job participating!
Real-World Learning
Z Hair Academy students who participated in KC Fashion Week worked cooperatively as teams in a unique real-world environment to truly try out their skills. They experienced the excitement of creating beautiful styles and the thrill of seeing the models going down the runway featuring their creative work.
“KC Fashion Week was a great emergent into a new world of mixing fashion and beauty,” said Izzy Polzin, one of the Z Hair Academy students who participated. “I can’t imagine spending my graduation any other way.”
Valuable Connections
In addition to providing Z Hair Academy students with a unique real-world learning experience, participation in KC Fashion Week gave students the opportunity to network with beauty and fashion professionals from within the Kansas City area. Such connections will prove invaluable as the students start their careers in cosmetology.
“KC Fashion Week is something Z Hair Academy staff and students look forward to twice a year,” said Ashly Dick, the admissions director at Z Hair Academy. “It gets us out and about in our city and allows our students a chance to express their creativity through hair and makeup outside of applying color or cutting. The looks the designers give us are usually unique and modern with a flashy flare.”
