They are sure to impress and stay in place until the last song is over. Check them out below!

The below tutorials are provided in articles from Allure.com, Latest-Hairstyles.com, and FashionMagazine.com.

The Boho Braid

This light and whimsical style is the perfect match for a flowing silk dress or bohemian lace gown. The eye-catching updo is different than the average prom updo with its ethereal detail and versatility. Dress this hairstyle up or down with some accessories and get ready to party all night! To achieve this look:

  1. Section your hair in two halves, parting it down the middle so that you can make two different braids.
  2. Start each braid on the side of the head, just above the ear, and create French braids down to the nape of the neck.
  3. Once you reach the nape of the neck, loosely rope braid the remaining hair and secure the braids with hair ties.
  4. Be sure not to pull too tightly on the hair so that your braids can hang comfortably.
  5. Tuck under the ends of your first braid and pin them into place with a bobby pin.
  6. Repeat this step on the other side.
  7. Pin any additional loose strands of hair into the braid and leave any smaller pieces down around the face.
  8. Spray it into place with some medium-strength hairspray.
  9. Dance the night away!

The Enchanting Updo

Can you ever go wrong with a romantic updo? At the Z Hair Academy cosmetology school, we believe an enchanting updo is a fool-proof way to rock the prom. While the look is relatively uncomplicated, its effect is jaw-dropping. Use this style to show off the sequin detailing on your dress, and add some extensions if you want the appearance of a fuller bun. To achieve this look:

  1. Spray the hair with a humidity resistant-styling spray—our favorite is the Joico Power Whip!
  2. Blow-dry the hair until no longer damp.
  3. Spray the hair once again, this time with a dry texture spray to add some grip when creating the updo. Try the Joico Body Shake Texturizing Finisher for extra body!
  4. Section out the sides of the hair.
  5. Backcomb the middle section to pull into a low ponytail.
  6. Tug on the hair to create a texturized look.
  7. Backcomb the ponytail to increase volume and then smooth it out.
  8. Pin the ponytail to one side of the head, pull it back to the other side, and pin it down to create a bun shape.
  9. Take the untouched side sections and twist them slightly before pinning them into the bun.
  10. Leave some small strands of hair down around the face to frame the look.
  11. Set it with some medium-strength hairspray, and enjoy!

The Sleek Ponytail

A slicked-back ponytail is one of the most classic prom looks and complements any outfit. Whether you choose to sway the night away in a romantic chiffon dress, or you plan to drop it like it’s hot in a velvet power suit, a sleek ponytail will complete your ensemble. To achieve this look:

  1. Start with a blank canvas—wash and dry your hair for a fresh starting point.
  2. Prep the hair with some dry oil.
  3. Lift the roots of the hair and spray the underneath layers with hairspray (hold the hairspray nozzle seven to 10 inches away from your head).
  4. Using a paddle brush, comb the hair back, making sure to smooth any pesky flyaway hairs, and pull it to the center of the head.
  5. Secure the ponytail with a hair tie. You may even wrap your hair around the hair tie for an elevated look.
  6. Go through the ends of the ponytail with a straightener to flatten any imperfect strands.
  7. Add your favorite accessories!

Bobby Pin Bling

Forget about concealing your bobby pins by tucking them under or matching them to your hair color. Bling them out! Colorful clips and bedazzled berets are in style this year and are the perfect accessory to add to any prom hairstyle. Match them to your dress, or opt for a statement piece that tells everyone exactly how you feel—the possibilities are endless. For the shorter hair beauties who can’t quite manage one of these beloved updos, pack on some custom bobby pins and show them who’s prom queen.
