Tips and Tricks | Cosmetology School Lee’s SummitLive Your Fringe Fantasies: The Most Popular Bang Trends of 2021

Bangs oftentimes get a bad rap among hair enthusiasts, with the majority of clients either loving them or hating them. Whether you can’t live without a subtle face-framing bang, or you have sworn off bangs since your last hair appointment gone wrong, you can’t deny that bangs are definitely an eye-catching look. This year, bangs have become increasingly popular among women of all ages, with styles ranging from mullets to razor bangs. Our stylists at the student salon within the Z Hair Academy cosmetology school in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, have compiled some of the most noteworthy bang trends this year to inspire your summer style. Grab your scissors because you are sure to fall in love with these trendy bangs!

Zooey’s Razor Bangs

Perhaps best known for her brunette bangs, Zooey Deschanel has seemingly become the spokesperson for razor bangs, and for good reason—they look absolutely stunning! If you want to try out a new look but are scared to commit to a bold color or cut, these classic and polished bangs are the perfect way to add some life to your current hairstyle. If you decide the short bangs aren’t for you, worry not! Your bangs will grow out quickly and seamlessly flow with the rest of your hair. If you are considering giving this look a try, ask for a wispy fringe with longer layers around the face. This gives you the option to trim them frequently or let them grow out, depending on what you like. To style your bangs:

  1. Wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner.
  2. Comb your wet bangs forward, down toward your eyes with a paddle brush.
  3. Use a blowdryer and paddle brush to blow dry your bangs to one side of the face, brushing downward.
  4. Brush your bangs toward the other side of your forehead and continue blowdrying in a downward motion with your paddle brush.
  5. Continue blowdrying, alternating brushing direction until the bangs are completely dry.
  6. Fluff your bangs until you achieve the look you want, and let your bangs rest.
  7. Apply some dry shampoo to add texture and volume (we recommend the Joico Weekend Hair Dry Shampoo)!

Miley’s Mullet

Whether sporting her iconic Hannah Montana luscious locks, or her current messy mullet, Miley Cyrus knows how to appreciate a fresh set of bangs! This 80s-inspired throwback look is a bold hairstyle that requires little-to-no maintenance. Shorter in the front and longer in the back, this haircut flatters a variety of people, particularly those with rounder, heart-shaped faces. If you’re carefree and bold enough to rock this nostalgic look, ask your stylist for a cut that’s shaggy in the back with layers that gradually thin out from the nape of your neck down to your collarbone. The addition of some blunt fringe puts a modern spin on this look and will help frame the face. To style your mullet, our stylists at the Z Hair Academy cosmetology school in Lee’s Summit suggest:

  1. Washing your hair with shampoo and conditioner.
  2. Running a quarter-sized amount of mousse through your hair from the roots to the tips (we recommend the JoiWhip Firm Hold Design Foam).
  3. Blowdrying your hair thoroughly.
  4. Applying some dry shampoo to your bangs to add some additional texture and volume!

Billie’s Blonde Fringe

Billie Eilish’s new blonde fringe is giving us ultimate 1970s vibes. This effortless carefree style is extremely flattering as the middle-parted bangs create a face-framing effect. If you are uneasy about adding bangs into your everyday hairstyle, this low-stakes layered look is the perfect style for you. No matter what occasion you are attending, this versatile bang is sure to turn heads, and the best part— it is extremely easy to style. To style your bangs:

  1. Wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner.
  2. Let your hair air-dry.
  3. Once your hair is completely dry, blow dry your bangs with a round brush or with your fingers to achieve the desired look.
