Why did you choose to attend Z Hair Academy?

At the time, the Z Hair Academy cosmetology school in Overland Park was the only school I toured that used fashion colors, which told me that they kept up with new trends. I wanted to learn more than just one color line and was excited about the Summit Salon Business Program. All of this told me that Z Hair would be the place to give me the perfect start to a beautiful career!
Where do you currently work?

I currently work at Azure Salon & Spa in Independence, Missouri. I rent a booth there and specialize in hair extensions, blonding, and color corrections. In 2024, I will be apprenticing someone who desires to be a cosmetologist and needs to escape homelessness.
What advice would you give to a new student?

I would tell anyone thinking about starting a cosmetology program to ask as many questions as possible, take your time, be patient, and give yourself grace. School is where you learn, and it is the place for your foundation, so take advantage of it.
How has Z Hair Academy helped further your career?

Everyone I have met knows Z Hair Academy and its reputation for building confident, knowledgeable stylists. Learning with Joico and Redken helped me specifically when I went to rent a booth. I felt confident knowing how to use different products from different brands.
What do you do in your spare time?

In my spare time, I do a lot of continuing education, specifically on the business side, but also learning more about color theory and staying up-to-date. My other time is spent being a mom. I was a single parent through cosmetology school and now have a 6-month-old baby with my husband.
What is your favorite hair product?

If I had to choose only one favorite product, it would be the Kenra Blow-Dry Spray. It smells amazing, is a heat protector, and conditions the hair without making it feel greasy. I use this on all of my clients, and all of my clients have this product at home. Pro tip—use one to two sprays on dry hair, dry the hair with your blow dryer, then style as desired for additional heat protection.
What do you wish you knew when you were a student?

As a student, I wish I had known not to be so afraid. The teachers I learned from always had the students’ backs, and if we had questions, we were welcomed without judgment. I wish I had asked more about the teachers’ time behind the chair and what they had learned and loved about the industry.
