Meet Ruby, a 2019 graduate of the Z Hair Academy cosmetology school in Overland Park! After completing 1,500 hours of training in our award-winning cosmetology program, Ruby purchased her own salon before eventually returning to Z Hair Academy to work as a floor educator. Today, Ruby is able to do what she loves most—being behind the chair and connecting with our clients—and is sharing her experience at Z Hair Academy. In Her Words

Why did you choose to attend Z Hair Academy?

I toured every school in the area and decided on the Z Hair Academy cosmetology school in Overland Park because I felt the education was top-tier and well-organized. I really loved the vibe of the school; the educators were so kind while I was touring, especially Sherri Harper!
Where do you currently work?

I am currently a floor educator at the Z Hair Academy Overland Park location. I drank the Z Kool-Aid and am a lifer.
What advice would you give to a new student?

You are learning!! It’s okay to make a mistake. Your educators are here for you; please ask us anything!
How has Z Hair Academy helped further your career?

I owe my entire career to Z. If it weren’t for Ron, Judi, and my educators, I wouldn’t have my career and huge support system.
What do you do in your spare time?

I work at a local livestock auction when I’m not at Z, and I love it. It’s a nice break from reality! I have a 4-year-old goddaughter as well, and she is my tiny bestie! I spend a lot of my free time with her (and her mom, who has been my best friend).
What is your favorite hair product?

The Redken Triple Take Hairspray—I could bathe in it!
What do you wish you knew when you were a student?

I wish I had taken the time to realize that everyone is on a different learning level, but we are all here for the same reason: to be hairdressers. I wish everyone, myself included, would take the time to be in the moment while they’re here. Hair school is the most humbling time of your life, but you make so many amazing memories and relationships along the way.
