Why did you choose to attend Z Hair Academy?

I toured several schools but ultimately chose the Z Hair Academy cosmetology school in Overland Park because I felt like they truly cared about my education and success as a stylist! I value my time there so much; I made so many core memories and friendships. When touring, they were extremely warm, kind, and informative!

Where do you currently work?

I work at Le Reve Medspa as an esthetician! I also do hair and nails out of my home salon.

What advice would you give to a new student?

Really go into it with a positive attitude. Show up. Half the battle is just being present, there in the moment. Have a good attitude, and you’ll be amazed at how happy you’ll be!

How has Z Hair Academy helped further your career?

Even to this day, I keep in touch with my educators. They’ve helped me in so many ways by noticing when I have talents I may not have seen and helping me pursue those talents. They stuck with me until I finally passed my boards—I struggled with taking tests, so it took me several times to pass—and they never gave up. They also provided multiple opportunities for me to find a salon to work at after graduation!

What do you do in your spare time?

In my spare time, all I want to do is more hair! I’m very passionate about this industry. I’ve only ever wanted to continue my education. After school, I got certified in lashes and extensions and eventually continued into the medspa world, which I love! I do have two small children and a husband, who are also my world!

What is your favorite hair product?

Probably the Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo. I can go two to three weeks between washes, and Amika saves me! I am also obsessed with all of the K18 products (their dry shampoo is amazing)!

What do you wish you knew when you were a student?

I wish I knew cosmetology school is what YOU put into it. It’s not anyone else’s responsibility to make sure you succeed. It’s your own. The educators are there to do their best to help you, but ultimately, it’s up to you to take that knowledge and run with it.
