What inspired you to pursue education?

I fell in love with the results of Bio Ionic styling tools after the first use, so I reached out to the company and inquired about working for them as a platform artist and in-salon educator.

What are some of your greatest achievements in the industry?

I have had the opportunity to work as a platform artist for Farouk Systems (Chi), Bio Ionic, and Aloxxi Hair Color.

For Farouk Systems, I also took on the role of Regional Sales Manager for a few years, then went into the education department full-time, working as the Regional Education Director. My primary role was to set up, train, and hire for seasonal hair trade shows. During the rest of the year, I traveled and covered a six-state area, educating other stylists on how to use the products and market them to increase salon revenue.

I have owned a salon for over 30 years and, for over 13 years, had a staff of 9 employees. I have also been part of a research and development team for styling tools!

How do you motivate your students to succeed?

I share from personal experiences. I do my best to relate to them on a personal level about fears that may get in the way of their success, like lack of confidence, fear of the unknown, and how to build their clientele. I paint a picture of what’s possible in this profession and how, with time, dedication, and consistency, they can not only build a career but a life they love! They can wake up and think, “Wow, I GET to do this as a profession” instead of, ugh, “I have to go to work today.” 

What do you love about teaching?

I love it when a student has an “aha moment” that transforms and excites their experience of working in this profession. I love teaching because this profession offers many opportunities in different areas to create a career that they enjoy and have fun in. It takes effort, skills, and hard work, and with all of those things, they can CREATE a clientele, a work schedule, income, and a lifestyle they love!
